Narrowband Nebula Images

alt="NGC 1769 emission nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud, captured from Cohuna, Australia"

This image which comprises some 44 hours of data, shows NGC 1769, an emission nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud often overlooked by imagers as it is a relatively small and feint object. Astronomy Magazine published the image as both a Picture of the Day, and also in their print magazine.

This narrowband image captured in the UK using my Pentax SDHF 75 telescope before we moved back to Australia shows the Horsehead nebula in the Orion constellation in the Ha wavelength (656nm). Light in the Ha spectrum is very prominent as it is emitted by Hydrogen which is the most abundant element in the universe.

alt="NGC 3199, a Wolf-Rayet emission nebula, captured in narrowband from Cohuna, Australia

This image of NGC 3199 in Carina, also known a s the Banana Nebula, or Carina's smile is around 75 light years across, and at least 10,000 light years away. My image, would could benefit from a bit of reprocessing, is in narrowband, with the stars removed.

alt="NGC 6302, the Butterfly Nebula, a bi-polar planetary nebula captured from Cohuna, Australia"

This image shows NGC 6302, the Bug, or Butterfly Nebula in Scorpius. The image contains over 22 hours of Data, composed of 600 second narrowband frames, and 300 and 180 second Broadband frames.

alt="NGC 6188, the Fighting Dragons of Ara, captured in narrowband from Cohuna, Australia"

This narrowband image shows nebula NGC 6188, better known as "The Fighting Dragons of Ara". The nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation Ara.

This narrowband image shows nebula NGC 6188, better known as "The Fighting Dragons of Ara". The nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation Ara.  This image is made more dramatic by removing the stars using Pixinsight.
